The US Department of Defense has tracked down the suspected Chinese spy balloon flying over American airspace is definitely for intelligence gathering. The development comes days ahead of the Beijing visit of Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Brigadier General Patrick Ryder-Pentagon Press Secretary, said in an official statement.”The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude spy balloon that is over the continental United States right now,” and it is definitely for Intelligence gathering purposes.
The incident comes on the back of escalating tensions between the two countries over a series of issues. While China said it is working to “verify” reports it flew a spy balloon over the US, reported news agency AFP.

The Pentagon said that it is keeping a track of the suspected Chinese surveillance balloon over its airspace. “The balloon is currently travelling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic and does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground.”

The official added that the balloon had flown over the northwest United States, where there are sensitive airbases. “We assess that this balloon has limited additive value from an intelligence collection perspective,” the official said. The official added that there was “no doubt” the balloon was Chinese, without explaining why?

Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning warned against “hyping up” the issue and insisted China would not violate international law. It seems they know what they can do under the international laws in US to collect the intelligence for their use.
